The Circle India's
Annual Impact Report
2024 - 2025
.jpg)
What We Do:
We reinvent schools, programs, and teacher institutions that empower students from low-income communities to build an India free of poverty and filled with love.

Our Three-Pronged Model:
Circle Incubation and Network
We're building a network of schools and afterschool programs, fueled by social entrepreneueurs, for children from low-income communities.
Circle Labs
We curate a platform of
short-term courses to build skill and community among Indian educators.
CircleU
We are building a teacher college that will fuel the system with better, more prepared educators.

India has seen multiple educational headlines this year, emerging on the backdrop of newer technologies that are disrupting workforces faster than anyone could have ever imagined. While we’ve made substantial growth on foundational literacy and numeracy and our poverty numbers have gotten better, our demographic dividend, long heralded as our biggest opportunity, is at risk of fading. Underlying all this is an Indian educational system that must rise to the challenge.
We, at The Circle, believe that work begins and ends within our schools. Reinvention, beyond starting anew, demands the wisdom to know when to innovate and when to replicate. Over the last year, we’ve launched new schools and programs in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Ladakh, and Manipur and deepened our presence in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and the Delhi - UP belt, where 50% of our models now reside. We are now working with 8000 kids through 31 models. To ensure our greatest learnings are finding their way into the hands of educators, our Labs programs have engaged with more than 5500 educators. We also launched our third flagship program: CircleU, an aspiring teachers’ college that’s offering a one-year signature course for new teachers and teacher coaches, beginning with 126 participants coming from 15 states. These efforts are empowering kids to not just climb out of poverty, but to thrive and become future changemakers.
As we enter another year, we recognize that realizing an ambitious vision for India will demand more. We’re moving faster, working more closely with local governments, and paving the foundations for deeper, systemic change. None of these steps could have been taken without a supporter like yourself. Reinvention takes a community and I want to say a big thank you for having the courage and the fortitude to be on this journey with us.
Sandeep Rai
Founder & CEO of The Circle
Over the past year, I’ve seen how The Circle is not just reinventing education—but rehumanizing it. Their work is a powerful reminder that real change doesn’t come from the outside in, but from the inside out—from the courage of young people, to the clarity of founders, and the compassion of communities. While the Incubation and Labs helped innovative educators and entrepreneurs launch new programs from Assam to Kashmir, CircleU brought together a nationwide community of practitioners grounded in practice and purpose for the first time. In a world that often prizes scale over soul, The Circle remains rooted in what matters most. They’re growing and scaling, yes. But they’re also keeping intact a mission to deliver transformative impact for every Indian child. I’m proud to support this journey—and hopeful for what we can create, together.

Circle Labs is a platform of

Nando, once withdrawn in class, is an engaged learner at Natun Fatasil School today because of Valentina’s classroom harmony program. Anupriya, once lost with physics, now understands motion by spinning poi and exclaiming, “Baar baar aata hai, jaata hai!” because of Aditi’s approach of integrating STEM with movement.
This year, we have been able to support educators like Valentina in Guwahati and Aditi in Karnataka, helping them pilot their innovations. We’ve been able to reach thousands of educators through our cohort programs and events, helping us build an ecosystem that advocates for reinvented learning. Through various Labs platforms, we’ve heard from experts like Kiran Bir Sethi, Stephen Farr and Michelle Culver and featured breakthrough schools like Pathashaala and Yellow Train. As we look ahead, we hope to amplify young voices, deepen government partnerships through a ‘MicroLab’ school, reboot our Starter program, and launch a ‘Next Level.’ Thank you for your continued support, we can’t wait to share what happens!

BEHIND THE NUMBERS
Kousar, Starter Program
Kousar from Imamiya Mission School in Ladakh had noticed that her students were often disengaged during their theory classes. Seeing this, she felt the need to build an agricultural lab so that her students could become active participants in class. Kousar joined the Starter Cohort to upskill and she used the Starter Grant to build the agricultural lab. Kousar's students are now learning about food systems and climate change through experiential learning sessions at the lab and they are learning how to grow vegetables so that they can sell their own harvest. Pictured here is Saniya Fatima, a 10th grade student of Kousar who is holding the vegetable she’ll soon sell.
Vaishnavi, Rotational Residence Fellow
Vaishnavi is a 2024-2025 Rotational Residence Fellow who spent her fellowship at three breakthrough Indian schools: Yellow Train in Coimbatore, K.C. Thackeray in Pune and Shikha Academy in Mumbai. Vaishnavi has now returned to Pokhrama Foundation Academy in Bihar as the Head Teacher and teaches English to Grades 9 to 12, while also shaping the broader vision of the school. Vaishnavi hopes to not just build better classrooms, but a stronger, more imaginative school from within, for the children of Pokhrama.
"I’ve brought in the teacher huddles to my school from Yellow Train, a library curriculum inspired by Shikha Academy, and even a mentor advisory model I observed at K C Thackeray.”
"The Starter Grant has been a ray of hope for my students, my school and our community in Chuchot, Ladakh."
-Vaishnavi Mohan, Rotational Residence Fellow from Kerala
-Kousar Rizvi, Starter Grantee from Ladakh

Glimpses of the Year

Circle Incubation and Network
New models spend their first 18 months within The Circle's Incubation, where they learn how to design, launch, and run their new schools and programs.

Over the last year, we have successfully incubated our third cohort of Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, who are impacting children across the length and breadth of India - from Ladakh to Hyderabad and Ahmedabad to Manipur. We’re now a network of 40 Entrepreneurs. And the diversity, along the way, is teaching us about the varied needs of India. We’ve partnered with experts from across industries to respond to those needs and, in the process, strengthened our program and our internal capabilities. We’re striving to ensure our support translates into real, transformative progress for kids. It has been another year of learning, something we’re rapidly understanding is an integral part of our DNA - our ability to constantly learn, fail and pivot for our children.

Circle Models actively raise funding and partner with governments to become more sustainable.

This year at Launch & Government Partnerships, we focused on three key goals: securing funding, navigating regulations, and building networks for our entrepreneurs. We redesigned mentorship programs to provide structured engagements and clear accountability, fostering meaningful partnerships. It has been incredibly encouraging to form critical partnerships with SVP, ILSS and Pacta, partnerships that will be valuable in enhancing our support to our entrepreneurs through the Incubation. As we look forward, we are excited about launching PPP school networks, expanding our donor network, launching a collective for PPP schools and scaling effective education models to ensure that a reinvented education reaches India’s children no matter their pincode.

More than a year ago, we witnessed the graduation of our first cohort of Entrepreneurs. We quickly realized that we were watching something more than a mere graduation; it was a commitment of a lifetime. This tapestry, which we call the Circle Network, is stitched with generosity, determination and trust. The generosity that our entrepreneurs provide to each other through time, knowledge and resources. The determination that our teachers display to show up in the best way they can. The trust that our parents and students put in all of us to reinvent the mainstream. My wish for this community is that we continue showing up for each other, for our students and for India.

Glimpses of The Year

CircleU
CircleU is a one-year teacher preparatory program, equipping teachers and coaches with the skills needed to reinvent.

This year, we launched our third flagship program, CircleU, in partnership with Nayanta University. The dream underlying CircleU, three years in the making, was born out of the belief that reinventing schools would demand that we simultaneously start reinventing our teaching workforce. We welcomed 98 teachers and 28 teacher coaches representing 18 states across India to Pune for 'Foundations', a three week in-person residency. Many teachers traveled for more than 30 hours, leaving their districts for the first time. All of them were moved by the hope of learning, growing, and serving children. These teachers will soon apprentice with expert school leaders, workshop with peers, design innovation capstones, and foster a supportive community they can call an ecosystem of support. CircleU aspires to become a leading institute in India that drives high-quality student learning and elevates the teaching profession. We envision
CircleU to become a one-stop shop for anyone committed to reinvention.

FROM THE GROUND
“Teaching still looks the same but after Circle U, I am not the same teacher anymore. My methods have grown immensely, and my purpose has deepened.”
At Circle U Foundations, I was able to engage in deep reflection, innovation, and hands-on skill-building, all rooted in real classroom contexts through immersive sessions, mentorship, and peer learning. Coming from Thangar, a small rural village in Pauri Garhwal, this wasn’t just a professional learning experience—it was a call to action. I’m committed to applying these learnings in my community to strengthen our grassroots education system and ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.
